Patient Care Room XR

This project uses VR to design a patient care room that prioritizes the safety and experiences of nurses. Feedback from master’s students at the University of Michigan’s School of Nursing was conducted using VR to present designs at a 1:1, interactable scale, and was instrumental in the development of this project.

Through numerous interviews it became clear that keeping pathways clear is crucial. To this end, the design features sliding doors, a dedicated recessed station for the computer cart, and built-in cabinets.

There are three zones, the nurse’s zone, the patient’s zone, and the guest’s zone. The nurse’s zone is closest to the door for efficiency and safety. The patient’s zone has a lift connected to a ceiling track, and a private bathroom. The guest’s zone has a couch at the window, and dedicated storage space.
